Horizon Europe - Be-UP

Name of the project: Boosting the Industrial Uptake of Biodegradable polymers for packaging applications by implementing digital tools and advanced techniques to achieve a holistic sustainability goal
Project acronym: Be-UP
Program: Horizon Europe
Goal: The main goal of the Be-UP project is to develop, demonstrate, and scale up advanced biodegradable polymers for packaging materials that are also recyclable. These materials will accelerate the replacement of conventional polymer materials (PE, PP, and PET) and provide a significant contribution to sustainability.

Specific objectives include:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 25%
  • Improving process performance by at least 25% (based on multi-objective function evaluation)
  • Replacing 67,798 tonnes of non-biodegradable plastics by 2032
  • Reducing CO2 equivalent emissions by 101,697 tonnes
