SUMMARY OF THE LECTURE

Industry 4.0, Internet of Things and Digitalization are buzzwords used everywhere. These topics will have a big influence on companies worldwide over the next years.
But what do these words mean for the plastics industry and why do we need a smart production? Megatrends show that the production of plastic parts has to be more flexible and efficient. Digital technologies are enablers for a smart production and can help to produce more flexibly and efficiently. User-friendly controls,  manufacturing execution systems and standardized interfaces are ways to improve transparency over the injection molding process and thus help to manage quality, energy and costs. The talk will show with use cases like the “Smart Luggage Tag” how a smart production can be implemented with today’s technology and how future technology might further advance the smart production.
The presentation will include some references to Arburg's Manufacturing Execution System ALS, where Mr. Kreidler will be supported by Bojan Žižek.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

Marc Kreidler started his carreer with an apprenticeship in electronics at the machinebuilder HOMAG AG in 1998. There he started to train people in PLC programming. During his studies in computer engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Esslingen he worked for the companies Hirschmann Automation & Control, DaimlerChrysler and Leuze lumiflex in the field of automation and industrial ethernet. After his graduation as Dipl.-Ing. (FH) in 2008 he started to work as a development engineer for netware interfaces, controls and system architectures at Festo. Since 2017 he works for ARBURG. As a Technology Manager he is responsible for topics related to Industry 4.0 and Digitalisation.

Connecting Studies with Industry and Research Environment

At UP FTPO, we believe that modern engineering education does not take place solely in lecture halls, but primarily through direct contact with industry, research institutions, and real technological challenges. For this reason, we provide our students with numerous professional excursions, laboratory exercises in companies, and insights into modern development and production processes already during their studies.

In May and early June 2026, students from different study years and courses visited several successful Slovenian and international companies and research institutions, where they were able to put classroom theory directly into practice.
